Why do you need to purge your Dynavap Lighter?
Lighters do not come prefilled with butane. Instead, they are filled with many atmospheric gasses. If you mix these gasses with butane the other gasses will consistently cause the flame to flicker and burn out. Purging the torch lighter allows you to refill the tank with only butane. This results in a more consistent flame, and a much better experience with the Dynavap Vapcaps.
Purging is necessary to maintain the best performance with your VapCap torch. We tend to purge our lighters every single time they run low on fuel. While this seems like overkill, this results in a better performing torch.
How to purge a Dynavap Lighter
Follow these steps in a well ventilated room
Purging your new VapCap lighter is fairly simple. You will need a metal loading tool or a paperclip, your VapCap lighter, and a can of butane. We recommend using 5x filtered butane or better. Our shop uses Colibri butane, which is conveniently available on Amazon and in stores.
First, I will mention that you should never point the fuel valve at yourself throughout this process. Especially your face. Keep it pointed in a safe direction.
Run your torch until it is almost empty.
Turn the lighter to the lowest setting and the lighter right side up.
Using a metal tool, poke the valve stem to release the extra butane and gasses in the torch. We recommend something a few inches in length. This will put your hand far enough away from the exit point that you can do this safely. Again, please do not aim the base at yourself. Butane and other gasses will be rapidly exiting the torch’s tank.

Refilling your butane lighter is very simple. Leaving the dial at the lowest setting, turn the torch upside down. The valve that we pressed earlier should be visible. Take your can of 5x filter butane, and press the nozzle onto the valve. Hold the can there for about 5 seconds. Give it one or two more presses and then put away the can of butane. The goal is to keep the can of butane vertical the entire time.
Let your torch sit for 5 minutes. After 5+ minutes have passed, reset the dial to your preferred setting and get back to vaping on your Dynavap Vapcap!
