Recently acquired a Terp Pen 1.0 from puffitup, I liked ithe 1.0 so much that the idea of an upgraded Terp Pen was too much to resist, so I ordered the XL. Very happy with the XL, easier draw, large coils that I imagine will be less prone to clogging (tine will tell) , love the stash storage in the cap. Adjustable temperature control. Very worthy upgrade. Gets me high, and thats what it's all about.
The Terp Pen XL is a good idea, but poorly executed. It feels like they rushed this thing to the market before testing it. - Shoddy indicator of when the pen is fully charged, the light will turn off, but the connection the port makes with the connector on the micro USB cable isn't stable, so if you shift the pen slightly the light will come back on or go off. - The 'tap the side/tap the bottom' to change voltage or check battery status is finicky. I'm constantly activating either the battery level display or shifting the voltage when I set the pen down, or when I put cap back over the coil, etc. I'd much rather just have a button that I click rather than have to mess around with this really imprecise tapping nonsense. - The battery level indicator is pretty much useless. The pen pretty much just stays on blue until it goes into blinking (unusable) red. Also, it'd be great if this thing would alert you when the battery is about to go dead, so you aren't shoving it into something only to have it do nothing (and because the indicator is out of your line of sight, you can't immediately tell that's what's happening). - Goofy, cheap battery. The first several times I charged this thing, it'd last maybe five or six 10 second hits and then need to be charged again. After a few charges, the battery began to last longer. The battery in this seems to be goofy and inconsistent, and maybe that's why the battery level indicator is also fairly useless. - Indicator light is too far up on the pen so it's difficult to see while you're using it. That means it's hard to see when the light is blinking indicating you've hit it for 10 seconds and need to stop and re-hit, or when the battery has died and needs to be recharged. I don't understand why they'd put it so far out of your line of sight. If they were going to do that, then they should've had some sort of haptic feedback rumble or something. - No coil availability. They launched this product but with absolutely no way to meet the demand for coils, apparently, because I can't find them anywhere. They're sold out on the official website and they only ship two days out of the week, they're sold out everywhere else, even replacement coils for the regular Terp Pen are sold out. So, once the SINGLE coil it came with gives up the ghost, this thing will be absolutely useless until coils actually become available for it. This reason alone is almost enough for me to consider returning it. At the very least, include a second coil! You're going to be charging us $13 for a pack of two anyway, at least be generous enough to give us a spare. - Where are the COMPLETE instructions? I've heard about how you're supposed to perform a pre-"burn off" before you use it initially, as well as a "burn off" when you're done to clear the coil, but there are no instructions included on how to do this, and this is never even hinted at anywhere on the box. Ultimately, it is really useful to be able to dab with this as you aren't putting the wax into a bucket with a coil, and you can get some good hits, however, there are far too many flaws with this thing for me to recommend paying $60 for it. It needs to go back to the drawing board and be revised somewhat heavily before I can recommend that. I haven't used the original Terp Pen, but it's cheaper, so I'd probably just go with that, or use a Sai or something.
What a disaster. Was so excited to receive this item. I’ve bought countless mods and vapes in the past. Never has anything come in so broken and non tested. I charged this for over a hour a 45 minutes (product website says it will charge fully with in 45 minutes.) The O-Ring on the battery post was broken. The three times I took off and on the coil O-Ring ripped off into pieces on the coil end. I treated it very delicately. Would not recommend. Quality control is terrible.
